Steam Demo Recap

Dimraeth’s public Steam demo is closed. It opened in April 2026 (Steam lists 2 April 2026 on the demo app) and came down on 15 July 2026. You cannot download it today, and you should not treat leftover footage as a shot-accurate preview of the 15 September Early Access client. Mudtek pulled the build because the paid game had already diverged past character-select, not because the demo failed.

The studio’s 15 July thank-you post counted about 60,000 players since April. TechTimes later cited 243 Steam demo reviews at roughly 81% Very Positive. Those numbers belong to the free demo. They are a useful signal. They are not an Early Access Metacritic.

If you skipped the demo and want a first-hour plan for September, use Getting Started instead of this recap. If you fought the two public bosses and want encounter notes, jump to the boss guides. This page is the historical record: what shipped in the test, what got added mid-run, and the 2 July notice that killed it.

What the first demo build put in your hands

Mudtek’s own pre-launch FAQ promised a taste, not the 1.0 roster: two playable races, two starting classes, and 8-player co-op. The March 2026 “demo is almost upon us” Steam post named the opening pair in plain language: Minotaur / Human and Brawler / Mage (the store now says Magician). The slice of world it advertised was the farmlands, Wildwood Forest, and Earlwood Village, plus quests, recruits, repeatable content, more than twenty equipment sets, home crafting, controller support, and Portuguese plus Chinese language support.

That matches the official site copy from before the demo existed. It does not match the 1.0 pitch of eight races and six classes. Players who only remember the trailer talking about 48 archetypes were looking at the destination, not the April build.

Combat in the demo was already the Souls-lite loop the store still sells: stamina, telegraphs, a small active spell loadout, gathering, and a stronghold you actually build. Community footage and the all-bosses clips that circulated during Next Fest consistently show two story bosses, not a raid ladder.

Mid-demo additions, then a hard stop

The demo did not freeze on 2 April. Steam news through May and June (including the Next Fest post) described extra quest time, a new area with new enemies, extra Deeds, a bounty mode for repeating tough fights at higher ranks, more gear, a skill tree paced closer to the real game, and character customization so co-op parties did not clone each other. Mudtek’s own mid-demo notes put a complete run at about 3–5 hours depending on bounties. One Steam post even floated Early Access at around the demo’s content.

Elf and Fairy are confirmed races in current materials, and Phillip’s 2025 systems post already treated Fairy as a staff caster even on Brawler. The April opener still began as two-and-two. Do not rewrite history by pretending the first weekend had the full named roster. Do not invent extra class names that Mudtek has not locked.

On 2 July 2026 the studio posted the Early Access date and the demo death sentence in the same news item. After three and a half months, the team decided the demo and the Early Access client had a “wide divergence” that reached “even options before you load into your world.” Keeping the demo live would have advertised the wrong game. They set 15 July as the takedown. A later re-release, they said, would likely need a rebuild. Thirteen days later they thanked the 60,000 players and pointed calendars at 15 September.

That is an unusual store decision and a good one. A live demo that no longer matches character creation is a liar. Closing it cost wishlists and Next Fest leftover traffic. It also means September buyers are not walking into a build they already finished in July.

Bosses the public actually saw

Public demo coverage and player videos name two bosses:

  • Monstrous Droop
  • Corrupted Treant

Those fights are why this recap links the boss guides. Treat them as the documented demo pair. Early Access is supposed to ship multiple bosses in the Lost Caverns–Earlwood–Wildwood stretch and add more during the 18–24 month window. Naming a third demo final boss here would be a guess.

Bounties, added mid-demo, let you restage hard encounters with scaling difficulty and loot. If that mode returns in Early Access, it will show up in patch notes, not in this history page.

What the demo does not prove

It does not prove the September client is identical. Mudtek said the opposite. It does not prove all 48 archetypes. It does not prove dedicated servers, local split-screen, or consoles. It does not prove a dated biome calendar; see the roadmap. It does prove that a small remote studio can hold a three-month public test, take Very Positive reviews, and still kill the build when the next one outgrew it.

The video on this page is a demo impressions piece, not a Mudtek patch trailer. Use it for pacing and combat feel. Use Steam news for dates. Use Getting Started when you actually boot Early Access on 15 September 2026.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Dimraeth players.

Can I still download the Dimraeth demo?

No. Mudtek took it down on 15 July 2026. The studio said a future demo would likely need a rebuild because Early Access had already diverged.

How long did the demo run, and how many people played?

From April 2026 (Steam demo date 2 April) through 15 July 2026. Mudtek thanked about 60,000 players on closing day.

Which races and classes did the demo open with?

The first public slice used Minotaur and Human with Brawler and Mage/Magician. Later news and systems posts discuss Elf and Fairy, but the original FAQ and March 2026 Steam post were explicit about a two-by-two start.

Which bosses were in the demo?

Monstrous Droop and the Corrupted Treant are the two named public-demo bosses. See the boss guides for fight notes.

Were the demo reviews good?

TechTimes cited 243 Steam demo reviews at about 81% Very Positive. That score is for the free demo, not for unreleased Early Access.

Why close a well-reviewed demo two months before Early Access?

Because the Early Access build no longer matched it, including options before you load a world. Mudtek chose an accurate store page over a leftover download.
